Inish adventures sea symposium,
Friday night
Hi everyone,
The weekend all kicked off with a talk on Friday night, there where a some talks on there various trips around the world and they very good and we had a good laugh to.
After the talks it was back to the pub for a few social able drinks.
As some of you may know I was kindly asked to do guiding for the angling side of the sea symposium with John Harkin doing safety.
SATURDAY MORNING,
Saturday morning came and there was a good selection of activities to choose from, there was a fantastic trip around the sea caves [ definitely one for the bucket list]
Or a very scenic paddle along 8km to 12km along out stunning coastline, you would need to see it as any description I write would not do it justice.
Also for those that like some distance paddling a paddle to Inishstrahull, Again a beautifull spot full of marine life from birds, fish, seals and on the wright day dolphins, porpoises and whales.
Last but not least our Catch it Cook it, So we caught it and we brought our catch up to Brian mc Dermot the no salt chef.
Twelve of us headed to the venue, 7 sea kayakers and 5 sit on tops. After a short chat on the shore about where we would be likely to hit fish and where to avoid.
Out we went and with a few minutes near enough every one was hitting fish. The majority where coalfish and an odd Pollack. But the there was no sign of early mackerel.
Everyone seemed to be having a blast with being brought in left right and center.
Young and slightly older where in there element. We had a 2 fish limit for the cooking end of things and the rest where returned unharmed. Some where even released by accident lol, they can be slippery lol.
Heres one of the slippery customers, not the kayak the coalie. This fish managed to jump back in after it was unhooked lol. It was very funny, but in no this kayaker had another.
This local kayaker was doing very well with the hard fighting coalies, If I remember wright this is one of at least Gareth managed on the day.
It was the turn of the younger kayak anglers to show us how it as done and they really done well. Most of them it was there first time kayak angling.
This young man was also catching away like a pro and caught fish after fish.
Here's young Duffy with a nice coalie, if I remember wright it was his first fish from a kayak. Not a bad start at all.
This young angler was also doing very well and he must have had around 10 fish.
After this we headed for shore, Gear packed away and back to Moville for the cooking end of the catch it cook it,
Back we to Brian's place for the cooking, along with our catch he cooked monkfish, mackerel, black sole and fantastic chowder from seatrout and smoked haddock.
I was happy with that as I am not a fan of eating coalie but to my surprise he even made that taste nice enough with very little effort and no bucket of sauce on it.
Here Brian cooked up some monkfish with again with the minimum of ingredients and of course no salt.
And heres the dish that last about 10 seconds. It was very nice.
He made it look so easy that I will have a go at it myself but I will betting it ends nothing like what Brian made.
Of course after this it was time for a few refreshments in the Local pub the Trawler man, well worth a visit. It's a great spot for a bit of craic.
Big Thanks
