Lynx Fishing , knotless traces. Well worth a try.

Lynx Fishing.
As above I spotted a post on facebook looking for 5 anglers to give there gear a good testing.
I entered and thought no more about it. Then out of the blue I got an email saying I was 1 of the 5 that was picked.
I was delighted to say the least and I had a large choice of rigs to choose.
I picked tope traces, conger traces, smooth hound traces, flowing trace plaice rigs, jerk bait wire traces for pike and some standard wire pike traces.
My order went in and about 1 week later a bunch of stuff landed at my door.
Here was my first glimpse of what I won.

I was impressed already and I hadn't even open a box yet lol.

Of course I wasn't long doing that and here was the lot laid out in all it's glory.
It worked out at 65 traces as the 7/0 De-tach extra strong hooks where in double packs.

Product code LSB040-TP5
First out of the box where the smooth hound rigs.
The smooth hound rig that I got has the extra strong 4/0 hook and has 110cm of 70lb mono with a zip sldier for your lead and then has 100cm of 40lb mono to the hook. Although the hook is the extra strong version it still has very nice point is very sharp, it should make hooking up an easier.

Next out was the de-tach snood complete [2 per pack] with again the extra strong hook 7/0 mounted on 75cm of 130lb wire, Look closely at the hooks they really do look the part.
This part of the de-tach range and I got them with the intention of just clipping them to my pulley rigs. So it should be a very easy rig change when needed.

Product code LSB025-TP5
Next out was the wish bone rig, 1 per pack.
It was a difficult rig to photograph but you can see the rig hopefully, It has a swivel in the middle of a bunch of very aluminous glow beads and each side runs down to a 2/0 hook . These are tied to the rig by 30cm of 30lb mono and the longer piece that is attached to it is100cm of 70lb mono. It also comes with a zip slider, so you ready to go. Just bait, lead and add it to your main line. It should be very effective.

LSB020-TP5
Next was the flowing plaice rig.
This trace is 2x2/0 Aberdeen hooks tied to 20cm of 30lb mono and added to 145cm of 30lb mono.
There are a few beads above the hooks with a red spoon to attract them. Traditionally I would have used white spoons but after seeing plaice, dabs and flounders having a go at the red light on my gopro.
Heres the vid below have a look yourself.
I think it happens twice in this vid

Product code LSB010-TP5
This is the conger rig, Its a sturdy 6/0 hook added 40cm of 130lb  wire and attached to 120cm of 70lb mono. Like the other rigs it comes with 2 beads and a zip slider. They are very similar to what I would tie myself, so I am more than happy with them.

LSB005-TP5
Last but definitely not least, This rig will get a hammering with me and I can't wait to use it.
The business end of this rig has again 7/0 hook attached to 40cm 100lb wire attached to 120cm of 70lb mono and also comes with a zip slider and 2 beads, so again it is ready to go.

Heres a close up pic of the 7/0 hook from the tope rig. It seemed small in the pack, as I near always fish 7/0 hooks for tope it seemed smaller than normal. So I was curious was it any smaller than normal. As you can see no its very similar. The hook on the bottom is what I normally use for tope with great success and the lynx one looks even sharper so I am expecting great things from these rigs.

So a big thanks to Lynx fishing for the fine selection of traces and I will be letting you all know how they fish and how strong they are. I am pretty sure they will live up to there reputation will be as strong or stronger than my own home tied rigs.

Scotish Skate trip that turned into a road trip.

Duration:About 6hrs fishing

Tide: 2hrs before high water

Weather: very breezy

Bait: mackeral

Rigs: 1 down for skate and a micky fish rig on the other

Results: for me 4 doggies

Report:
The big plan
Well the scene was set and after many months of banter and planning we had decided to go to lochalsh as it would be the chance of getting out on the skate ground at that time of year, well so we hoped.
The trip date was coming and the weather wasn't looking good but we where going in hope of some shelter.
So I met Anto in Laytown way way before stupid o'clock 2am :D and loaded his car with enough gear to stock a tackle shop :D .
So off we went straight up to Larne and waited for the other 2 dossers to appear, we where wondering where they coming for a minute as they are only down the road.
But sure enough Tony and Andrew rolled up and we parked up for a chat and as we did the wind was battering the place  . But not to be deterred we boarded the ferry.
I was hoping for a decent lumpy run for a laugh but some of the lads where a step ahead with the sea sick tablets  .
The crossing was that flat you would have had a rougher run driving around Donegal.
Heres some of the gear I brought.

Following the sat nav, other wise known as Tony
So we landed in Cairyan and Glasgow Angling was going to the first stop   . Oh this wasn't a spot for me I said I'll get a few bits sure I have enough with me ;) Well in the end I needed a basket for my few bits
From the left Tony Powell, Andrew mc Ailhone and Anthony Byrne

So off we went then a lot poorer heading for Lochalsh, we passed Lochlomond and many other iconic spots to many to mention and the scenery was fantastic.

At long last,
We arrived late at Balmacara house and we where just in the door ahead of Rob and Daniel who had given it a try into the dark in terrible conditions, the mad buggers.
By now the wind was roaring and it was time for a few beers.

Finally the time came to get fishing.
Ready for the off

Some of the lads getting ready here Daniel Vanderpost, Anthony Byrne and Rob Appleby Goulberg,

The next morning we woke to a moderate breeze which it turned to a strong gale by the time we had breakfast  .
So we decided to head to Loch Duich a long sheltered loch. It had a long trench in it which went down to 100m :D . Not where we wanted to fish but it was to bad for any where else.
We land there with Anto upsetting a very welcoming local gent   be care full where you park in Scotland
We landed , geared up and I headed straight out to the buoys to see what depth was there and then on out to the deep to drop anchor. By god its a long way down it seemed to take for ever to get the anchor down what the hell would it be like reeling a skate up through it I thought  .
I didn't need to worry as the skate didn't appear but I had 4 doggies at the end of the day.
I did time it on one retrieve, it took 2.5mins to reel up alone  .
The scenery was fantastic as I have said loads of times but heres my favourite pic.

By the end of the session I gave Anto a shout to say I was heading in as I was getting cold and there was a good breeze and tide against for the run home.

But he seemed to be fishing on the drift  But no he was dragging anchor and his rods where fouled, He was muttering away to himself as he dragged past fighting with his anchor  , The knife was produced and he was heading for shore . We all soon followed and day 1 was over.

Time for a chat about tactics
With that it was back to the accommodation for more refreshments which could only be held in the cheapest pub in Scotland  , Anglers + cheap pub = a very merry bunch of anglers
It was decided so they tell me that we'd wait until the morning to make our mind up as the weather was to be even worse  .

 flat calm, tie my shoes and then its a storm

As above we woke up to a strangely flat calm morning :D  I was happily shocked.
But I had no sooner got dressed and went down stars and the wind got stronger and stronger with in the hour it was roaring.
We decided to see how it would go and delay our launch. Rob and Daniel took it handy while Tony, Andrew, Anto and myself went for a run over Skye. :D It is an amazing sight fantastic scenery but we didn't find any where to launch and no where was properly sheltered from the wind  .

The regroup :(
Back to balcamarra and the decision was made that there was no chance of getting out and myself and Anto decided to head home, But Rob and Daniel had gotten out and we where about to change our minds until we went outside again and the wind was litterly screaming through so we carried on and headed for home.
In total for me it was 17hrs from leaving balmacara until I got home in Donegal  So in total that would be 34hrs traveling for 6hrs fishing  , Agh but it was worth it for the craic, it was a great laugh and great scenery.
Until next time lads tight lines. And hopefully we will catch the next time :D .
